Waldoboro, a 19th-century shipbuilding town, was home to the five-masted schooner, the largest and fastest of the coastal schooners that carried freight and passengers along the shores of our continent. Located on Main Street (Old Route 1), the Inn is just south of one of Maine’s busiest coastal thoroughfares. Tree-lined, with beautiful examples of grand Victorian houses, Waldoboro’s Main Street is evocative of a different time and sensibility in mid-coast Maine.

The Waldoboro Inn, formally the home of John B. Stahl, one of the town’s fabled sea captains, was transformed by his son, Clint, into a tavern and inn in the early 20th century. Stahl’s Tavern once again became a private residence in 1970 when the building was purchased by Ted Wooster, the town pharmacist, and his wife Betsy, both beloved citizens of this small, vibrant community. In 2022, when this historic mansion came on the market, we purchased the property from the Wooster estate with plans to return it to its life as an inn and a local place to gather. We pay homage to Ida, the last innkeeper and Clint Stahl’s wife, by naming the wine bar after her. The Inn is walking distance to Perch Cafe, The Narrows Tavern and the Medomak River. We are a short drive to Odd Alewives Brewing, Tops'l Farm and the Maine classic – Moody’s Diner. We are right next door to The Waldo Theatre, now a venue for some of the best entertainment on the coast of Maine.
